Happy International Nurses Day!
Nurses provide unwavering support for families and patients during some of the toughest times imaginable. Frequently placing the needs of others above their own, nurses foster a compassionately driven work ethic that ensures the utmost level of care is upheld.
International Nurses Day is celebrated annually on May 12th, the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, in recognition of her pivotal role and contribution to the profession at large. In 1860 she established the first official training facility, Nightingale School for Nurses and is considered the founder of modern nursing as it is known today.
While nursing is a highly rewarding profession, it does come at cost. Long hours, graveyard shifts and the very nature of the work can take a huge emotional and physical toll.
Many workplaces are under-staffed and financially under-supported, leaving nurses to battle less-than-ideal conditions on a daily basis. Despite this, they are unequivocally one of the most trusted professions in Australia, as outlined in the Roy Morgan Image of Professionals survey data. From providing around-the-clock care, administering complex medication schedules to continued guidance through recovery and illness, nurses are the very backbone of our health industry.
Gallay congratulates all nurses on their outstanding professional achievements, wealth of knowledge and across-the-board commitment!
